The Women’s Party was created to engage, attract and retain women donors to GGF. The event has been renamed as the Red Party and will continue to be a fundraising event supporting GGF’s annual campaign, the Friendship Fund Drive. The Women’s Party has morphed into the Red Party in an effort to be inclusive of the entire LGBTQ/ally community.

This event started as GGF’s women’s donor cultivation event. It began in the fall 2007, when a few women donors and supporters wanted to get more women involved with GGF. The Women’s Party was created to engage, attract and retain women donors to GGF. Not only was the event a fundraiser supporting GGF’s annual campaign, but it also served as a community building and networking/socializing event for the Triad lesbian community.
The first few parties began in private homes with an average crowd of 50-75 women attending – now the event has grown to the point where it has to be held in larger event venues around the city with a crowd of over 200 women. The format of the event changes slightly from year to year, but there is usually a formal donor cultivation event hosted by GGF in the first portion of the night (complimentary beer/wine and food) followed by some kind of after-party with a cash bar, musical entertainment and dancing. The 5th Annual Women’s Party was held in February 2012 at The Empire Room in Downtown Greensboro, attended by over 250 people and raised over $58,000 to support the work of GGF. It was also at the 5th Annual Women’s Party that GGF created and presented the first annual Dawn S. Chaney Award. Typically this event is held every February.
