The Straight Ally Party was created to engage, attract and retain straight allies to GGF. Not only is the event a fundraiser supporting GGF’s annual campaign, the Friendship Fund Drive, but it also seeks to educate straight allies about the work of GGF as well as important issues within the LGBTQ community. Typically this event is held annually in May or June in a donor’s private home.
Before GGF created the Straight Ally Party, there was a Straight Ally Campaign. It was a print media campaign and featured several full-page advertisements in the Greensboro News & Record. The ads featured pictures and quotes from well-known community leaders as well as a list of straight allies in the area that chose to participate in the effort.
In 2015 GGF merged the “Straight Ally Party” with the “Friendship Fund Drive” gatherings.
